Office Insider for Windows Desktop is available in two levels*—Office Insider Slow and Office Insider Fast.

Office Insider Slow:

Best for Insiders who want to get early access to fully supported builds with minimal risk and provide feedback to help make Office great.

Office Insider Fast:

Best for Insiders who want to use the earliest preview builds, released more frequently, to identify issues, provide feedback to help make Office great, and don’t mind a bit of risk using unsupported builds. By choosing the Fast level, you agree to the program’s terms, which supersede your agreement with Microsoft to use Office. Note: This new feature is being rolled out gradually, so it might not be available to you right away.

How can I opt in?

Office 365 Home, Personal, and University subscribers: To set up Office Insider on your Windows Desktop for use at home, you have two options:

  1. From the File menu in any Office 2016 application, select Account and click the Office Insider tile. Select the check box to Get early access to new releases of Office and click OK. You will be updated to the Office Insider build at the Slow or Fast level you selected.
  2. Visit the Additional Install Options page of My Account. Sign in with your Office 365 subscription credentials, if needed. Choose Insider Fast or Slow from the Version menu. Select Install and follow the instructions. If you already have Office 2016 installed on your Windows Desktop, it isn’t necessary to uninstall. You’ll be updated to the Office Insider build. If you don’t see an Insider option on the Version menu, you may not have an active Office 365 subscription.

Note: This new feature is being rolled out gradually, so it might not be available to you right away.

How can I opt out?

Office 365 Home, Personal, and University subscribers: To opt out of Office Insider on your Windows Desktop, you have two options:

  1. From the File menu in any Office 2016 application, go to Account and click the Office Insider tile. Clear the Get early access to new releases of Office check box and click OK. Note: This new feature is being rolled out gradually, so it might not be available to you right away.
  2. Visit the Additional Install Options page of My Account and choose one of the other options when installing Office.

Once you opt out of the program or change your level, you’ll be updated to the build corresponding to your new level (Slow or Fast), or return to the monthly production release schedule non-Insiders are on.

For Office 365 Business, Enterprise, and Education customers, use these steps or ask your admin to configure your Office client settings.

What do I get as an Office Insider?

If you are an Office 365 subscriber, you get early access to builds containing the exclusive monthly upgrades and new features that are included with your subscription. Bug fixes, security updates, and performance enhancements are also included. If you aren’t an Office 365 subscriber, you’ll still get early builds containing bug fixes, security updates, and performance enhancements.

How can I opt in?

Open any Office 2016 for Mac application, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, or Outlook. On the Help menu, select Check for Updates. Select the check box to Join the Office Insider program. and then choose Insider Fast or Slow from the menu.

How can I opt out?

You can opt out of the Office Insider program by clearing the Join the Office Insider program check box in Microsoft AutoUpdate. You can also change your Office Insider level at any time. Once you opt out of the program or change your level, you’ll stay on the current Office Insider build until we release the next regularly scheduled update. From then on, you’ll be back on the regular release schedule for feature updates for the new Office Insider level you’ve chosen, or the monthly production release schedule non-Insiders are on.

How can I opt in?

To become an Insider for Office Mobile, join the Windows Insider program. Once you join Windows Insider and choose your Windows Insider level, you will automatically receive the corresponding Office Insider version of Office Mobile apps on your device.

If you have Office Mobile, you can visit Launch Settings by either selecting Start > Settings. or pressing Windows key + I on your keyboard, and then follow these steps:
